Most convention and visitors bureaus will pitch you the same old story and message. They’ll show pictures of happy people golfing, nice looking hotel rooms and conference centers. Many different cities offer the same “come visit us” taglines. This tired approach was exactly what the Ames CVB wanted to avoid. They knew that in order to stand out, they needed to brand themselves differently, which meant infusing some personality and having a little bit of fun.
Ames CVB wanted to catch the attention of visitors by creating a campaign with some attitude and humor. By poking fun at themselves and other big cities, they were able to reposition their brand to attract new events for their state-of-the-art facilities, and encourage visitors who are just going through town to stop and check out some of the unique attractions Ames has to offer.
